Signslate is a mobile app which connects deaf people with an interpreter over a videochat. One of the main requirements was, that the user interface of the application should be very visual - it should use icons and images instead of text as much as possible.
Deaf people face communication complications on the daily basis. Signslate provides them help and guidance in these difficult situations. Mobile application had to be carefully designed for both type of its users: deaf people seeking help on one side and the experienced interpreters being able to help them on the other side.

The solution consists of the user experience analysis, design and creation of interactive prototype for native mobile applications for both iOS and Android in InVision. The prototype can be viewed via the InVision app and it behaves like a real mobile application.
Application design is inviting and friendly. We also created a lots of custom icons to have the explanations more visual than textual.
Mobile application is carefully designed to be accessible for both deaf people and interpreters.
Deaf people can get help when needed over the videochat with skilled interpreters.
Signslate is a bridge for communication of two groups of its users for a mutual benefit.
We start with the formulation of User Stories which express what the user will be able to do and which actions he will be able to perform in the application. Then we continue with the creation of User Interaction Diagram where we assign individual User Stories to app screens or system components.
The final result of user experience analysis is Low Fidelity Prototype which clearly denotes from which user interface components every screen consists. We created Low Fidelity Prototypes for both iOS and Android platforms.
The design is a soul of an app and with a clear idea about user experience of the application, we can focus on this next task. Being based on a thoughtful UX, the design defines if the application is accepted or rejected by its target group.
This mobile application was carefully designed to be nice and pleasant, with a lots of custom icons and illustrations, and to provide a great experience for both deaf people and interpreters.
The result is a design and an interactive prototype of native mobile applications for iOS and Android. The prototype can be viewed in the InVision application and it can be seen how the real app will look like and behave after it will be implemented.
With this prototype, the project can be tested and validated with the real customers and their feedback allows our client, the realisation team behind the application, move on to the next stages of the project.
